Descripción
In this class we will put ourselves in the shoes of tech leaders (entrepreneur, CEO, manager, etc) and look at ethical challenges they are likely to encounter sooner or later in their careers. We will discuss a specific set of tools that can be used to define a consistent ethical framework to address those challenges.
A high level of student participation is expected: through real-world case studies and interactive discussion, students will learn to identify ethical dilemmas, reason through ambiguous situations, and develop a personal ethical code for leadership in technology.
Objetivos
1. Understand why it is important to have an intellectual framework to think about ethics.
2. Understand that although there isn’t a universal standard for right and wrong, if one chooses a set of human rights and/or behavior principles (for instance, the golden rule) it is possible to judge our actions in a way that is consistent with them.
3. Understand that most situations are not black and white from the point of view of ethics. This means that in real life we have to constantly make trade-offs.
4. Be familiar with the “faustian bargain”: The fact that we have to constantly make trade-offs should not be an excuse to bypass our ethical framework. To avoid this it is important to be aware of what a “faustian bargain” looks like.

Es un emprendedor, tecnólogo e inversionista con más de 25 años de experiencia en la industria tecnológica, desarrollada en los principales centros de innovación de Silicon Valley, Boston y Austin. Su trabajo se ha enfocado en la intersección de inteligencia artificial, big data y modelos matemáticos. Fue cofundador y Chief Software Architect de Orbital Insight, donde lideró el desarrollo de una plataforma pionera de analítica geoespacial basada en datos satelitales, respaldada por inversionistas de primer nivel como Sequoia y Google Ventures, y utilizada por inversionistas, empresas y gobiernos a nivel global. Previamente, trabajó durante 8 años en NASA Ames, donde diseñó sistemas avanzados de planificación y optimización para misiones espaciales. Además, cuenta con 10 años de experiencia en startups en etapas tempranas. Actualmente es fundador de Arrebol Capital, un fondo de venture capital enfocado en startups de FinTech y logística en América Latina, donde combina su experiencia operativa y de inversión para apoyar a emprendedores en la construcción de compañías escalables. Su trayectoria integra una visión única como ingeniero, emprendedor e inversionista, que aporta a la formación de líderes en emprendimiento tecnológico.
